Do you ever just read a book, and it just totally works and makes sense.. you're able to relate to it on so many different levels? This novel was that for me.

I loved this novel; seeing sunsets and giant goldfish <3 (you will understand once you read). It was equal parts, heartbreak and learning to love yourself, letting go of past hurts, leaping into the future and just living day by day.

Liv is such a likeable main character. She is very much in her head and worries about things she can't control. This is her Summer to let go and let fate decide, but in the process she also learns so much about herself.

Aiden the other main character point of view in this story is my favourite. He is the golden boy of the town, he is sweet and sarcastic. He is also going through a lot and for me his character was the best part of this novel.

I relate a lot to Liv and her struggles. She is always over-thinking everything and wanted to know everything, instead of just living. Her first serious relationship, she was all in with Zander and his family. She spent more time with his family and felt more at home there than at her actual home. My first relationship, I was so close with his family; his mom was like my mom, his brother was my little brother. When things ended, I didn't know how to go back to not having these people in my life. And his family and me tried to make it work after the break-up, but everything had changed and nothing felt the same anymore...especially once we both starting dating other people.

Ms. Pennington has such a gift in how she describes everything. As a reader you feel like you a present in the canoes or on the baseball field. I loved the entire experience of reading this novel. Seeing Liv grow and learn new things about herself was really eye opening and such a joy to read. I was 'squeeing' the entire novel because it was so fantastic. Aiden is a lover of sports, the arts and the outdoors. He brings out so many good qualities in Liv and she in him, that I was smiling the entire time.

I will definitely read more from this author, it was an intense ride...and I enjoyed every moment of it.

Jessica Pennington, you’ve done it again. Another 5 stars from me.

I read “Meet Me At Midnight” just about a week ago and fell absolutely in love with it (you can check out my gushing review on it if you’d like) and I immediately bought this one.

“When Summer Ends” is about Olivia and Aiden and a summer they’ll never forget. Olivia is a planner and spontaneity is not her thing, but when she finds out her aunt has gotten a job in Arizona and she’ll be moving at the end of summer she decides to live this summer up the best she can and let fate take control - then her boyfriend breaks up with her. Her boyfriend who she’s pretty much been in love with since she was ten and is going to be a bridesmaid in his sisters wedding....ouch.

So in comes Aiden, Aiden was the schools star pitcher until he’s diagnosed with an eye disease and begins to lose his vision, forcing him to quit the baseball team. He decides to work at his family’s store for the summer and explore his second passion, art.

Olivia gets a job at Aiden’s family store and they become coworkers. The first day seems to be going fine until reporters show up and she finds out her absentee mom has won the lottery. She save her from the swarm of journalists Aiden takes her on the nearest canoe, and this begins our summer romance.

Olivia and Aiden are straight up adorable together and everything is perfect, except she’s failed to tell him she’ll be moving at the end of summer. And when Olivia’s ex boyfriend shows up (who happens to be Aiden’s former teammate) he spills the news before Olivia has a chance. Olivia tries to make things better but when she tells Xander (her ex boyfriend) personal information Aiden confided in her it seems to be the end of the relationship.

Olivia realizes despite adoring Aiden she was never fully invested in their relationship because she knew she was going to be leaving - but decides she has to at least try. Because life has been so much better since Aiden came along.

She takes out on a canoe and shows him an art piece she made for him. Arizona drawn out in rocks and Michigan across from it - with a heart in the center. She unveils all her feelings to Aiden and apologizes saying she never meant to hurt him and she should’ve been 100% percent in instead of one foot out the door the whole time. The two then make up.

With the money Olivia’s mom won from the lottery she buys her sisters house so Olivia can stay in her home and not have to leave her school and friends and begin to mend her relationship with her daughter.

The epilogue concludes at the end of Olivia and Aiden’s senior year, them still together and attending the schools baseball game to show support.

“When Summer Ends” and “Meet Me At Midnight” are the perfect summer reads and I wish I had read them in June/July rather than now! Either way I love these books, they’re feel good and heartwarming but also real and moving. Both made me wish for a summer romance of my own. Basically what I’m saying is please pick this book up, you’ll love it.

Such an enjoyable, feel good story! I love Aiden and Olivia's journey together and the ups and downs they took across this book. I flew through this in two days cause it was definitely binge worthy material. Lol

I picked this up after browsing through random audiobooks on Libby. It was a really quick listen and I liked it. It was fast paced and cute, but honestly a little anticlimactic. Nothing too dramatic happened and there wasn’t a huge conflict. I liked seeing the MC and her mom work in their relationship and getting to know the love interest. It was overall a cute YA romance that gave me big summertime vibes!

This was a solid 4 star end of summer read for me! I loved the characters and story and the second chances!

Couple things that I loved with this were the nods to Lake Michigan summers (THE BEST), the romance and Art Prize! Being a Michigander (and more specifically from West Michigan), this story rang true for me! Everything about summertime in West Michigan that I love was present and I wouldn’t change a thing! I also loved the sweet summer romance and how these two (Aiden and Olivia) find their second chances and love and it’s just fantastic!

The only thing I wish was that the epilogue had been a bit long or we had a bit more going into the end of the book. I loved everything about it!
