"I don't know which I should fear more," Tenar said, "death or life. I wish I could be done with fear."

Alder is haunted by his late wife and the other undead people beyond the wall. They seek to be freed and to be in Earthsea through him. He seeks Sparrowhawk for help but the former archmage is "done with doing" and tells him to seek Tenar, Tehanu, and the King Lebannen. But other than the undead, another threat looms above them: the dragons.

I've put off finishing Earthsea for selfish, need-to-hang-onto-series type of reasons but I do have a twinge of regret that I've not started on this book sooner. So many layers to this. The narrative has an uncanny way to focus less on the adventures that are happening right in front of you and hones in more on the characters, what's happening between the lines (beyond the main storyline), and so on.

The Farthest Shore continues to be my most favorite out of all of the Earthsea books but this was a good ending for it.

My favourite part of this book was probably the beginning, the slow scenes of Ged and Alder just chatting and going about daily tasks at Ogion's old house, seeing Ged and Moss again. I also loved seeing Tenar and Tehanu again later on. The amount of switching between povs brought down my enjoyment a bit, I think I prefer the more focused writing style. I did enjoy this though. Not as much as some of the other earthsea stories, but it was a good ending to the series, and a relaxing enjoyable read

I really enjoyed this “final” step in the Earthsea cycle! I loved how all the earlier stories were relevant in this book. It was fun to see Ged as an old man, and sad to see Tehanu fly away on the other wind. This series will definitely be one I re-read to catch more details about the world of Earthsea and learn more about each character. Tenar is still one of my favorite characters, and the princess was an excellent addition!!

I REALLY wanted to give this five stars but I cannot excuse the islamophobic/orientalist stereotypes and yet ANOTHER "romance" between a teenage girl and a fully grown man. ursula babygirl what are we DOING. why are all of your women of color actually secretly dragons. why are all of the remaining main female characters white. the version of this book that exists in my head is so good I promise
