Hannah Morrissey’s writing is so lyrical and beautiful. I was hesitant to pick up the book but I’m glad I did. I want to read her other books! There were parts of the story that frustrated me, mainly the disconnect between Rowan and Axel. I know this was intentional. Libby’s perspective was a conflicting read but ultimately her character is misunderstood. This was a great mystery thriller and I wish more books were written like this.

Moderate: Adult/minor relationship, Animal death, Body horror, Bullying, Fatphobia, Gore, Suicide, Medical content, Grief, and Alcohol

•Hannah’ Morrissey’s latest, When I’m Dead, kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time!
•Welcome back to Black Harbor. A teenage girl is murdered and Detective Axel Winthrop and Medical Examiner Rowan Winthrop are determined to figure out who’s behind it. The fact that the victim is their teenage daughter’s best friend, just adds more motivation to solve this case quickly.
•While investigating, their daughter, Chloe, actually goes missing as well. Axel and Rowan race against time to try to figure out what happened to these girls— and if they can save Chloe.
•Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for this ARC. Make sure you grab a copy when it’s released on October 31, 2023.
