wow. um.. so much to say but i'm not sure if I can form words. Although I loved Seth and was so excited when they got together, I was kinda rooting for another team. But I guess I can't have everything :(
Besides that the book was well written, very fascinating enchanting, captivating, and i'm obssessing over this. I really can't. SO GOOD!!

LITERALLY CAN'T EVEN RIGHT NOW...ok ON TO THE NEXT BOOK lol

I liked the plot line of this book but I don't think it was written in a way that captured the story and engaged the reader. Keenan the King of the Summer Fairy Court needs to find his queen. Fairies exist in the world though are invisible except to Aislinn the main heroine of the book. I felt she wasn't developed well nor was her friend/boyfriend Seth. Donia for the most part was a fairly strong character or at least stronger then Aislinn. Keenan feels he has found his queen in Aislinn and so the book is basically his pursuit of her and her not liking it.

I am hoping that the author gets better as the series goes on. I have the second book ready to read and hoping the characters are better.

One more thing the sex/sexual content of this book annoyed me on so many levels.

This review (and more like it) can be found at Ambrosia Books!

You always heard the good things about fairies as a child. They granted wishes, brought your soulmate, gave you hope. It was all blue moons and magical fairy dust. But in Melissa Marr's "Wicked Lovely", she decided to go dark when it comes to fairies.

And when I say dark, I mean DARK.

We follow a girl named Aislinn who was taught one thing (said in many different ways), but this is the jist. Do not F*** with the fairies. Don't look at them, don't talk to them, don't acknowledge them. Don't let them know that you know. You won't live through the consequences. So all of Ash's life, she's hid this secret from not only her friends but from the fairies as well and it has been going fine. But then the fairy world starts paying attention to her and stalking her and she doesnt know why.

I liked where Marr was trying to go with this. I like how she made this world dark and mysterious, but it wasnt fulfilling. Actually, this novel showed all the reasons why I didn't like YA novels for a long time. It just felt dumbed down. It took to long to get to the core of the story and, to be honest, it was repetitive. There was even a part of dialogue where I literally screamed "okay, I get it!!!" I'll give you an example of what I mean:

And he looks at her and says, "If you do this, your life will never be the same." And she says, " yes" and takes the ring. "Alright." he smiles. "Now say the magic words. If you say them, you know you'll never go back to your old life." The girl nods. "Yes. I want to be with you." She whispers the magic words. He shields his eyes from the light illuminating from the ring. "You're doing it, my love. With these words, your life will forever change!"

It literally had 2 pages full of that kind of situation. I wanted to throw the book through the window, poke my head in the hole, and scream for it to never come back. But then i'd look crazy screaming at an immobile object.

The characters were interesting but forgettable. You have Aislinn aka Ash, the girl with Sight. Seth, her emo best friend and crush who has massive amounts of piercings. Some dude who's the Fairy King with a name I can't remember and the Winter Girl with a name I ALSO can't remember. Grams, who's very protective and that's about the whole cast. Oh! Can't forget Ash's slutty high school friends. Throughout the book you are introduced to dozens of fairies who hold no significance whatsoever. They were only described so Marr can show you that all the fairies in this world come in different shapes and sizes.

I dont have a favorite part...well I actually I do. This is a little R-rated, but it's in the book. I promise i'm not making this up! Basically one person says, "No. Let's not have sex. Let's wait so it will be special." Then ends up going down on the person they just said no to. I think the phrase was something"never been kissed there before." I rolled my eyes at this. I'm guessing "no" means "yes" when it comes to sex and oral sex is equivalent to kissing.

Other than that, there really isn't much to talk about. I own the sequel "Ink Exchange" which isn't the actual sequel to "Wicked Lovely", but a whole new array of characters within this fairy/human universe. I don't think I'll be reading it anytime soon. So, I give this book:

2 stars

I kind of liked it. I'd say I 25% liked it. I didn't HATE it, I know that much. Marr had a good idea that wasn't written in a way I think it deserved, but maybe this series gets better. I also just found out that a movie based on this book was greenlighted for the second time after being dumped the first. The company that did the Vampire Academy movie is supposedly developing it. Maybe this will be better on-screen than on paper.

The beginning was a bit slow and confusing for me but then it got better and better. The story was riveting and i couldn't stop reading. i love faeries so this one did it for me. I delved into the world she created; fearies in modern world. it was a great debut.
