Hated Finch
BUT it gave me Night and she’s one of the best background cats in the books

A book about a cat who meditates, prefers peace over war, and loves to swim? Sign me up.

I mostly enjoyed this book. I wish that there was lesss retelling of the events that happen in DOTC books and more of park cats and life in the park and I wish that we got more from Riverstar in general but I liked the book I guess.
The pacing wasn't the best and I didn't enjoy the romance between Finch and Riverstar. It felt rushed and forced and I hated that she had to give up everything - her kits and her father just so she could be with Riverstar. Why did Riverstar need a romance plot/mate and kits again?
I did love that he has a platonic friendship with Night and that Night states that she doesn't want another mate or kits since her old mate and kits died - and that the book sticks up with it.
Ending Slash for good felt satisfying. I loved reading his death and I loved Finch for epically killing him off for good. I also didn't mind Skystar being a secondary villain in this one.
I feel like the book tried to cram too many plot lines and ideas into the story and none of it had a chance to develop fully. It had a lot more potential but at the same time, it wasn't as bad as I feared it would be.

No mini comic?? what's the point!!! also it felt such a wishy washy plot, meandered quite a lot then skipped random chunks of time. where it ended didn't feel like an ending at all. really one of the worst super editions overall and really disappointing.

Frustrating is the best way to describe this one.
The magic and mystery of Riverstar as a unique and slightly eccentric character has been completely wiped away with this book. There's a whole lot more needless love drama I didn't care to read about. A lot of this book (about 50%) is just downright recycled plot elements from Dawn of the Clans but this time from Riverstar's POV. Skystar is still the worst (nothing new there, I suppose). The book feels drawn-out and doesn't really get interesting until past the 50% point when we enter "new" territory with Riverstar going to aid his old parkmates and feeling torn between his homes.
I don't HATE this book, it's just very disappointing as many new releases from this series have been as of late. But to be fair I'll list some elements I like: getting to see the park cats again, getting some final closure to the Slash conflict, Night as a character (she's THE best character in this book) and the first official warrior ceremonies being held.
