Taylor, a second grade teacher on vacation in Cape Cod with her brother, gets more than she bargained for when they find a body in their rental home—and when a grumpy bounty hunter arrives to investigate the murder.

“Admit this is romantic.” “No,” I say, breathily. “It’s not.”

Unpopular opinion alert: this one was NOT IT for me. I know there must be something to love about it because a lot of people I respect a lot really love it…but unfortunately I did not find whatever they found in the pages of this one.

Even though I expected the murder mystery to be relegated to a bit of a side plot, it was ultimately almost entirely irrelevant, to the point that I’m not even sure why it needed to be part of the plot. Still, I would have been okay with that if the romance made up for it, but I found the dynamic between Myles and Taylor to be super creepy and possessive, and I just could not get into their relationship.

Also, I recognize what a weird soapbox this is for me to choose, but because I just can’t get past it: there are no pandas in Connecticut. Entirely possible there are weirdos in panda suits though. (IYKYK)

I’m going to end this here, but if you read and loved this one, know that I cannot relate but I’m genuinely happy for you—please don’t come for me.

CW: Murder/blood; gun violence; some discussions of kidnapping/child abuse; abandonment.
