I wanted to read this book because I really enjoyed the Cinder series. So, I thought I would give Marissa’s other work a try. I struggled with the first book, and I also struggled with this book.

Adrian and Nova are each other’s worst nightmare, they just don’t it. In Renegades, Nova and Adrian fought the battle of their lives against the Anarchist known as the Detonator. It was a short-lived victory. The Anarchies still have a secret weapon, one that Nova believes will protect her. The Renegades also have a strategy for overpowering the Anarchists, but both Nova and Adrian understand that it could mean the end of Gatlon City – and the world – as they know it.

This book was boring. I would have loved for the hidden identity of Nightmare and the Sentinel. I felt like this book was just delaying the inevitable. It was filler book with no major thing happening except for Frostbite’s team showing to be the real villains. I felt like every single character is just define by their powers and absolutely nothing else. I would have killed for someone to have an actual personality. Adrian started to annoy the crap out of me about 50% in the book, Nova started to annoy me about 25% in this book.  I felt like there was no romance whatsoever in this book and no drama.

There was so much potential that this book could have, but it was just never there. I just wanted more, and I found myself skimming through the last 10% of the book because I was bored and uninterested. I am going to have the read the last book just to hopeful see someone go down, whether it’s the Renegades or Ace, but someone better go down otherwise I'm going to throw the series out of the window.

I think this follow-up to Renegades was even better than the first book, and I am now very impatient to read the finale!
The characters and their imaginative powers continue to be intriguing. The hidden identities and secret plans and FEELINGS combined to create some truly palpable tension.
This was a great superhero read, with vivid fights and incredible powers and fascinating tools.
And, once again, I love the clash of ideologies, where the validity and flaws of all sides are examined.
A really great, layered read.

I’m not gonna lie, this book got me in a reading slump for a while but goddamn that ending was stressful. So much action was packed into the last few chapters. I was on the edge of my seat the ENTIRE time. The miscommunication can get a bit frustrating but that is literally what I signed up for by picking up this book. I’m too invested in the characters so I’ll definitely continue reading this series.

The story continues to be gripping. Even though in the middle there were some slow bits, it was really nice to see
SpoilerAdrian and Nova's relationship blossom, as well as Oscar and Ruby's.

That ending though! Can't wait to see how this story plays out.

I found this book very entertaining, I enjoyed this book much more than its prequel. I felt like the characters were much more fleshed out, in the first book I felt like there were too many storylines for each character and it got confusing to follow. This second book, mainly focused on Nova and Adrian which made it much easier to follow; then the other renegades were seen as supporting characters instead of trying to fight for the main character. The plot and idea of this book were also far more fascinating than the first one
Spoiler in the first book we see how Nova infiltrates the Renegades which is entertaining, but in this second book, we have to see how she balances both of her lives, which is far more entertaining.
. I love how we were introduced to new characters such as the hawthorn and frostbites team but we still learned new information about older characters. Finally, the ending to this book is amazing and I can't wait to dive into the third book and see what Nova does; does she reveal who she is, does she keep living this lie her whole life?

God this book made my anxiety levels go through the roof. I was so invested in the book that in the last ten chapters I could feel
Spoilernova’s anticipation and stress
. I can’t believe the book after this came out four years later, i can’t wait that long and have placed the next book on hold at the library immediately. Of course the book was really good, matching the first one, and I read it in a single day. I gave it less stars than the first one because the shock of the creativity and beautiful story work had worn off a bit. But it was fantastic, same as before. The
Spoilerromance got even better, it was very well told and I was so so invested in it
. Wow!! Also this is the first book i’ve read this year that wasn’t part of the dymocks challenge, but i had to read it after reading the first one. Read on 24th Jan.
