I read this for my English class: Law and Literature.
This book was very good. I don't feel smart enough to talk about it. The story really touched my heart and I think it will stay with me for a long time. I hope to understand the story, and the message more. I don't really know what to say. I don't want this book to leave me.

A Heartbreakling read

I see why I refused to read this book until my book club decided it was our monthly choice for discussion. This book was written about a time long ago but in 2021, it seems as nothing has changed. Jefferson was in the wrong place at the wrong time. The all-white jury did not care about the truth. His mother wanted him to face his predicament like a man, something that Black males were not allowed to do. They worked from sun up to sun down as Jefferson stated and for what reason. His work did not benefit him or the community. I remember a neighbor of mine telling about his father that was hanged in Mississippi for registering Blacks to vote. It was heartbreaking to listen to this man tell about his father's death. I had the same feelings reading this book. Will things ever change for the better for all people?
