Keating's illustrations are bold and colorful bringing Bunbun and Bonbon's fancy world to life with clean backgrounds that convey the setting without cluttering the panels. A limited vocabulary also makes the story easy to follow while introducing new words (notably bonbon among others) throughout. The story broken into chapters that can be read as self-contained stories or all at once.

Adorable and fun graphic novel debut from Jess Keating (whose middle grade novels I already adore)! You don’t need expensive and/or elaborate gear to be on Team Fancy — all you need is a little imagination, enthusiasm and a kindred spirit. I could easily see this book pairing up with a creative hands-on activity: putting together a Team Fancy Party!

To me, this felt like a thinner, more manic version of Narwhal and Jelly. The illustrations are cute but the story and humor were lacking for me.

Bunbun is the happiest bunny, but is feeling a little lonely when he happens upon a wonderful talking Bonbon and they became immediate friends. This is an adorable new graphic novel / beginning reader series with bright bold illustrations and frequent use of exclamation points that will definitely appeal to young readers. Perfect for fans of Narwhal and Jelly.
