I loved these poems but why must there always be god and lord in poems? Where are the atheist/agnostic poets?

Favorite lines:
Always I was the bird
That flew off the branches.
Now

I am the cat
With feathers
Under its tongue.

3.5 stars - this collection has a more spiritual/God vibe to it than others of hers. There’s still the wonderful, transporting prose. So many good words and beautiful imagery.

I loved this book, like all of Mary Oliver's books. In fact, I have read so many I was surprised that I hadn't run into this one before and was shocked to find it full of poems I hadn't read before. She is so wise and her verses send me out into the world with new eyes.

Pay attention.
Be astonished.
Tell about it."
