This was excellent! It kept me guessing the whole time, though I will admit my final suspicion turned out to be true. Also there were a few characters I wanted to punch REALLY hard. I thought the outcome was fitting with the rest of the book. The only reason it didn’t get 5 stars was just that I felt it was missing something for me, but it’s definitely worth the read!

I wanted something thriller for October and saw this was by George R R Martin, and I had to pick it up.

I kind of guessed where it was going, but it definitely fit what I was looking for. Haunted spaceship. Need I say more. Plenty of suspense and fear. Similar to classics such as Alien, The Thing, or 2001: A Space Odyssey.

I kind of wish it were longer.

This was great, a bit of mystery, lots of gore. A but formulaic but for a short novella it works well enough. I would have even like this to be expanded into a short novel to get to know the characters more. I kept thinking this would be a great film but it turns out Netflix turned it into a series in 2018 and it didn't get good reviews. Although to be fair, I don't see how Netflix got 10 hours of content out of such a short novella without taking a lot of their own creative liberties. The illustrations are phenomenal.

An alright read, but given the scale, scope, and longer writing of Martin's main series (ASOIAF, of course), this was a bit of a letdown. D'Branin and Melantha were repetitive and relatively flat, and the pacing felt slow.
