It's not bad or anything. It's kinda "??????????", if you know what I mean

I’m not sure where to start. Waterfall by Lauren Kate is underwhelming to say the least. The book picks up where Teardrop leaves off, but the whole thing is really circling the drain.

Eureka is even worse. The world is flooded, Brooks is…I don’t even know. The whole things is a mess and in the end I’m not even sure what happened.

Maybe I’ll re-read Fallen to remember why I wanted to read this series in the first place.

Wtf did I just read? What a huge let down. I really enjoyed reading Teardrop. I got completely invested in the characters and to end it like that. Damn!

I loved this book but I'm not going to lie, there were many design issues that contributed to it loosing out on the fifth star which is such a shame. In theory design issued shouldn't matter because it's all about the story and the writing, right? Alas the design of a book is so important. Teardrop is such a beautiful book and probably one of my prized possessions, especially (and I will never get tired of boasting about this) because it's signed (from a Goodreads giveaway)and it's just so damn gorgeous. Now, I wasn't asking for the world I was asking for a matching cover but did that happen? No it didn't! In fairness the cover could have been worse at least it was blue and water themed and the spine actually looks okay next to Teardrop bu there were some problems. Now, I'm no photographer and I know that the picture is of a girl underwater but to me the photo just looked of bad quality. Also the dust jacket is completely shiny which isn't something I'm a huge fan of anyway but bearing in mind that Teardrop is primarily matte this is a disaster.

Moving on from the cover the inside design is just not up to par! While Teardrop (my copy at least) has a pale blue inside Waterfall's is just plain white. Also the font used for the chapter titles is just plain ugly compared with that used in Teardrop which is just disappointing. One last thing that I noticed was the fact that Waterfall did not have a prologue while Teardrop does which< at first< I though well maybe it doesn't go, I wouldn't want Lauren kate to force a prologue in just for me to say 'hey what's the point of this prologue'. However this first chapter focuses Seedbearers (much like the prologue in Teardrop focuses on Ander) so my question is this: 'Why, oh why, wasn't this a prologue instead of a chapter?' Having said this I will point out that I'm not an author and have never written a book, so this is just one nitpicking readers point of view. Overall my first impressions were not good the book itself just seemed cheep to me which was a hug disappointment .

Despite this the story proved to be just as good as I expected. Honestly I had no idea where it would go after the ending of Teardrop so everything that happened was pretty surprising in a good way. The only criticism I have with regards to the plot is that it was a tad confusing, especially the ending so I had to go back and read some bits again. But this doesn't bother me too much as I am a re-reader at heart, I've read Teardrop 3 times this past year and I will definitely be reading Waterfall a couple more times. In comparison with Teardrop this book was really action packed and it's clear now that Teardrop was very much the build-up, the incredibly enjoyable build-up, to Waterfall. I absolutely adored the last paragraph or so of the ending, I was on the edge of my seat reading it, which looked a bit strange to my flatmates,
Spoiler and oh my God! That last line was beautiful! I loved it so much but simultaneous hated it! What now? Where do we go from here? Are they dead? Are they alive? Are they ghosts?

On to the boys, gotta love 'em. In my Teardrop review I'm pretty sure I mentioned that I was team Brooks and I am still team Brooks(obviously the un-possessed version). Unfortunately but for obvious reasons he doesn't feature in this book as much, so the focus is on Ander. Now I was never a huge Ander fan in I'm honest but in this book I just thought he was so useless, sexy but not really helpful in anyway whatsoever. But, saying that I wouldn't want to get rid of him.
Spoiler I felt so bad for him when he saw his reflection, or lack there of, in the Glimmering thing I just wanted to give him a hug. It just made me really sad that he was nothing. It was a bit of a plot twist when we found out his heritage but I just couldn't stop laughing when Solon said that his family had a fondness for cults (or something along those lines) so they handed him over. I don't know if this was intended to make me laugh but I loved it, especially because everything is so serious. By the end I felt so sympathetic towards him
I really need to know what's next for the boys? Where do they go from here? Do they each get a happily ever after? They'd better!

One thing I wasn't too keen on was what I like to call 'the tag alongs', which is a group of characters consisting of Eureka's dad, the twins and her friend Cat. Honestly I was just waiting for the to die, or leave, or disappear, or just wait for her elsewhere. I didn't really care what happened to any of them. I suppose Eureka could have had a bit more time with Cat, some bonding maybe and sure that would've been nice but... There's a reason you find a lot of orphan protagonists in young-adult/kids books. Saying this, however, I do understand why they were there and it did fit in with the plot so I'm reluctant to take points off for that.

I liked Eureka in the first book and my opinions didn't really change in this one, so I couldn't think of much else to say about her. She seems to be stronger which was nice, you got a bit of character development.
Spoiler One thing that caught my attention was when she sort of realized that she'd been idolizing her dead mother and it was nice to see her accept that Diana wasn't perfect. One thing I didn't understand was seeing Maya as her reflection in the Glimmering. I understood the connection with Delphine instead of Selene but does this mean Maya is connected somehow? I was relieved that she didn't dwell too much on the fact that she killed the old woman because it just gets repetitive and boring (it reminded me of Tris from divergent (something that really annoyed me)

As for the other characters, I loved, loved, loved Solon. I thought his dry humor was hilarious and liked how he just laid everything out on the table. Though the orchid thing was a little weird.
Spoiler His last letter was heartbreaking and it wasn't until that point that I realised how much deeper he actually was as a character. The seedbearers death was a little strange though just because it was so quick, when in Teardrop they seemed to be important antagonists here it was just like 'hey we have better antagonists now, see ya''
The characterization in this book was so good because guess who else I loved? Yeah, that's right Atlas. I love a villain and he was pretty villainous! Every time he just appeared out of nowhere it was just great! And his one liners? Hilarious!
Spoiler I thought the part right at the end where Eureka was sort of flirting before she tried to posses him was excellent!

Long story short; Lauren Kate I love your writing and will read anything that you write! World building was great. Characterization was sheer perfection! The design let you down but I'm sure once I read it a couple more times I will be able to see past it. Is there a third book? I'm dying to find out what happens to these characters (some more than others)!

I had to change this rating because now that I think about it, it was more of a 2.5

What the hell just happened? I don't even understand what happened in this book. First 50% were slow and boring, but after that it was like I started completely different book. I was in dilemma to give it two stars just for interesting ending, but there was too much random shit

A good portion of the reviews said that the first half of the book was slow but that the ending would make up for that.....I don't get it. The ending consisted of possessed peeing, ghost robots, and a pretty cheesy end line (and honestly that makes it sound more interesting than it was). I loved Lauren Kate in high school, but maybe I've just outgrown her.

This was just okay. It was hard to follow and Eureka became so unlikeable that it was hard to find a reason to continue reading. The ending seemed like the author had painted herself in a corner and had to find a quick solution so she threw together an ending that sort of came out of nowhere and basically screwed over everyone who loved Eureka. It also left so many questions that I sort of threw up my arms and said "that's it?" The first book had promise, but this second book just totally ruined the story for me and didn't even really make sense.

What a freaking disappointment. Loved her fallen series and was looking forward to reading something about Atlantis, but this was awful. Seriously. Don't waste your time.

I hated this book. It felt so out of place. One minute there's a unicorn, and then Eureka dies?, and Brooks dies?, Eureka loves Brooks now and not Ander?, etc. The list is endless. I feel like there was just WAY too much going on. It took me forever to finish this book because I hated reading it that much. I loved the Fallen series and was expecting this series to be as good as that one but it just wasn't and I did not like it at all.
