it felt very 80’s, in that i wasn’t a fan of a lot of the language used as well as the ableism but i guess it comes with the territory. i was picturing stefan like middle aged or older the whole time, so their relationship felt especially weird to me. (even thought i don’t really like that they ended up together anyway. why spend that much time saying you won’t fall in love with him just to randomly do it at the end?)
i definitely see the meatloaf ending even though it wasn’t quite as severe as i thought it might be, it did end kind of abruptly.
tldr i liked the characters and the plot was decent but i was just kind of not that impressed

There are just some things about this particular Koontz that work extremely well for me. The pacing between the two POVs is very different, but for good reasons, and I think it just works. I really like both main characters a lot, and I like many of the side characters as well. The plot might be far-fetched at times, but the story makes sense, and it is thrilling, especially in the second half. Even though this time around I already knew much of the twists and turns ahead, I still had an excellent time and am glad I revisited this story.
