Like having some big hairy bloke shout at you about food.

Cute, but ultimately un-inventive recipes. Purchase if you're into novelty cookbooks for novelty's sake. :-)

One of my favorite places to go for inspiration. Aside from all the reviews about how the book is written, the food is just plain good

I read the sample. This would be a clever idea. If you didn't know that it's written by two white people.

The word thug has awful racial connotations. It's not okay to use the wording to sell a book. If you want to write an obscenity laden, poor people can eat well, too, book, I'm all over it. But don't. Not like this.

If you want to know just how hideously racist, dishonest, inconsistent, hypocritical, narcissistic, and cringeworthy these charlatans really are, I highly recommend The Bearded Vegans 2 part podcast "GASLIGHT: The Thug Kitchen Story" and all linked sources which you can see here:

Don't mistake their corporate appropriation of the current political climate as accountability.

Complicated and not-so-common ingredients. None of the recipes are simple to make.
This book intimidated me.

This one’s weird to review. Incredible recipes (all vegan, if you care about that sort of thing), hilarious writing...aaaaand the writers later turned out to be white cooks impersonating a stereotype of a black “thug”

I love this book --where else would you find someone ready to call you on your cooking faux pas? Also an interesting surprise: this book is vegetarian. I didn't expect that. Notable, some of these recipes can be adapted to include meat. Me, I don't like tofu. Blegh. So, if I didn't just leave it out entirely, I might substitute it for chicken (or pork) --particularly in some of the noodle dishes.

Over all, pretty sure I need to go buy my own copy of this, but if you're not sure: check it out from your local library. You won't be sorry.
