Many of those who’ve left 1 and 2 star reviews have hit on everything that made me give 2 stars also. None of the characters were likeable. There had to be a better way to show the sisters’ closeness than that godawful annoying -bobs or -dogs on the end of everything. Hannydogs. Kattybobs. (Screambobs… oh wait, that’s just me, every time I read another bloody example of it). As others said, the one word sentences got annoying. It had an interesting premise, but ultimately took far too long to get going. I ended up speed reading about 60% of the book in a day just to finish it.

A paranormal thriller that kept me on the edge till the end. The author did an excellent job in describing the claustrophobic atmosphere and plotting the story.
Helen slowly grew on me and the satisfying solution came as a surprise.
Recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine

Liked the concept of the book but it just didn’t do it for me. It was quite slow, jumbled and I didn’t like the characters. I also found the language problematic and a bit annoying at times (lots of bobs and pops and weird add ons at the end of words). Really disappointing read

The book started a little slow for me, but I did like the build up for the tension and mystery surrounding the plot. It definitely picked up in the later part of the book, I do think the fact it was told over the two sisters POV’s and dual timelines helped with the pacing.

I thought the story would go one way and it definitely wasn’t what I was thinking - which is always a huge plus for a thriller. The story being set on a creepy, isolated island, which Han is trapped on, definitely added to the eeriness and mystery of the story. The added supernatural/witchy aspects were a clever touch too.

I have to admit, my main gripe with the book was the sisters way of talking/interacting with one another. When it happened at first I thought it was a really nice way to show them and their interaction/relationship with each other. By the end I was totally dog and bob’ed out - especially in some places where it seemed a little inappropriate to use them.

That said, it was a gentle suspense thriller and I would definitely recommend to anyone who is just starting out in reading thrillers or wants something a little more tame for a beach read.
