An elderly gentleman dies in Lord Peter's club. Not so unusual, perhaps...except that this old gentleman had a complicated family backstory and a relative who's been rather looking forward to his inheritance. Can Lord Peter untangle the mystery of how, when, and where exactly the General died, and settle the matter of to whom the inheritance should go?
This one was entertaining and kept me guessing. Particularly interesting, and insightful, is the relationship between Lord Peter's friend George and the General. The General disdains George because he doesn't understand or accept the pain that PTSD causes WWI veteran George in his everyday life, and sees him as merely weak and parasitic. Highly recommended.

An old man is found dead in his armchair at the Bellona Club, and it turns out that the time of his death will influence the inheritance of a few people due to an odd will made by his sister. I was introduced to Lord Peter Whimsey, the rich white man who will solve the mystery using his connections, money and a little bit of wit. (Maybe I’m being cynical, but this author is pitting him helplessly up against Poirot and Miss Marple, who are already intriguing.)
Maybe another book on the list which doesn’t have an overtly Christian focus, but the main detective in it does study “evangelical theology” in his spare time. This was recommended to me by a friend who knows I like detective novels, so I gave it my best go, but it wasn’t really my vibe.

Loved loved loved it an absolute classic. Yet incredibly poignant and a remark on how people treated soldiers who fought in ww1 and had ( what we now know as ptsd) and how people considered them in relation to working and socially. Also a brilliant murder mystery.

I depend on Sayers and Lord Peter for complex, interesting mysteries -- his instincts are quick and insightful and his tenaciousness is legend. This one was no different. Plot has been well described by other reviewers.

Glad I read it but nowhere near as enthralling and clever as the first. I need to figure what #2 is. 1920s England is actually interesting to see up close.
