I liked what Kwon Yeo-Sun did to exploring the lingering impact of grief. In terms of genre this novel was described to me as more of a crime/detective book (which the blurb also leans towards). Once I got on board with it being a character driven narrative I enjoyed where it went.

In structure Lemon felt disjointed. The chapters ricochet between characters and it can take time to adjust to who you are reading. For such a short novel it felt like it was trying to do too much.

I think I would have enjoyed this more in written form than in audio book form, as I read it. It felt scattered and confusing, rather than cohesive. I wasn’t 100% convinced for a bit that it was a novel - it felt a bit like short stories with tenuous connection. It worked itself together, but it was hard to trace the narrators. Ultimately interesting but not very satisfying.

“…raising important
questions about guilt,
retribution, and the meaning of
death and life.” I genuinely ask, where?
The blurb for this book was more interesting to me than the actual book itself. I felt exceptionally indifferent while reading this, and that indifference remains the same now that I’ve finished.

It was a little confusing keeping track of the narrators. Maybe it would’ve been easier in print?
