What a brilliant story and a wonderful follow up to original Tim Burton film, so well done and I would be happy to see this made into a movie also!

I fell in love with Shea’s masterful writing; her pulse is right on the vein of magic that gives NBC life. Sally’s character exploration & development is a fun journey that also expands the NBC world. The details are lush, the story is cozy, and the magic of NBC is once again alive in a new way. I hope that there will be more NBC books coming from this author.

I loved this!!! The Nightmare Before Christmas is one of my favorite Movies to watch every October, usually several times!! I love Jack and Sally, and to read about Sally’s life (after she’s married) and in her voice was so exciting to me!!

Ernshaw did a fantastic job writing Sally’s story!! I could tell that she knew the movie well by the way she wrote all the characters. Sally’s voice was perfect, just how I imagined it. We learn so much about her and her story. We get to see behind the different doors to all the holiday worlds, plus a new world. I couldn’t put it down!! I absolutely loved this and along with the movie, I will be reading the Pumpkin Queen’s story every October!!

I highly recommend this, especially if you love the movie, Sally, Jack and Zero!! It’s such a great story!!

This just didn’t work for me sadly.
I found it boring.

Sally as a character was frustrating.
She went back and forth over the same issues and feelings just to come to the same conclusion each time.
The book overall was repetitive and the writing was very different from the authors other work I read, it was not engaging at all.
I found it interesting to see the other worlds but that was about it.
I feel I lost interest after the first 100 pages and was frustrated by the decisions Sally made when it was clear what she should be doing.

Though Jack and Sally were simply meant to be, the role of queen is something that Sally has difficulties with in Shea Ernshaw’s Long Live the Pumpkin Queen: Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas.

A year after the adventure of Jack’s that expanded the known world of Halloween Town, Sally marries Jack and becomes the Pumpkin Queen. The newlyweds go on a quick honeymoon to Valentine’s Town shortly before the upcoming Halloween and when they return and Jack gets to planning with the mayor, Sally’s uneasy with being their queen and the attention that she’s getting from the town. While escaping in to the forest for a bit of peace and quiet, Sally stumbles across an old, disused door with a crescent moon on it; her curiosity getting the better of her, she opens the door and forgets to close it. When she wakes up she finds all of Halloween Town asleep and a strange sand strewn about and no matter what she tries she can’t wake anyone. Venturing to through the doors to the different holidays Sally soon realizes that she might be the last person awake and it’s her fault for leaving an unknown door open. When she enters the unknown door, she finds herself in Dream Town, which is governed by two ragdolls like her. During her time in Dream Town Sally learns about the being she unleashed upon the holidays, as well as the human world, and herself while she strives to set things right and save her beloved home and husband.

With a high bar set from the classic The Nightmare Before Christmas and the iconic images and a “what’s this?” sense of wonder it established, this story following Sally does a good job of maintaining the established atmosphere and imaginatively building upon it to deepen the world and life of the woman accustomed to being a side character during her struggle to assume her role as a queen. While the envisioning of Sally’s backstory is intriguing and the pieces were put together well and had me, someone who watches The Nightmare Before Christmas at least once a year, stopping with a wide-eyed realization and appreciation that Sally’s prophetic dreams or visions have roots in her mysterious past, the clues provided were a bit too overt in relation to the strangely slow-yet-quick pacing of Sally’s travels to the various towns and her growth as a character. The text was crafted in a manner to ensure that intricate details weren’t overlooked, such as referring to a seam for a spine, leaves rustling for a heart beating, and fabric for skin, helping to immerse readers in Sally’s perspective of the world.
