"4/21: Completed The Aztecs. I was very interested in both the historical record and the mythology of the Aztecs. I was not disappointed on either count, plus I got to learn a much more accurate version of their rise and fall (even knowing how short a time their empire actually existed). I am excited to go after the next two."

7/22: Completed The Incas. I know very little about the Andes civilizations, beyond the basics taught in school so I was excited to see what new information I would learn. I was surprised at the extent, rapid rise and accumulation of materials the Inca's were able to acquire. I was also surprised at how good they were of making friends of conquered peoples and that they were young enough as a country that the internal flaws had never crippled their empire in anyway (yet) before the Spanish showed up. What I found most fascinating was the treatment of history (always adjusted to the benefit of the current ruler) and the view that past rulers should have their own estates and would go (as mummies) to state functions.

8/3: Completed The Maya: I was stunned at how much we have learned, but still have very little information about the Maya. I felt an affinity for them with their love of history and the mystery of their fall.
