This is one of my favorite series. I was really bummed at the end of the last one with the thought of a love triangle in the works but this book made it all right. Mel's mom and her flask-toting friend, Ginny ask Mel and Angie to help run a cupcake baking competition for a local beauty pagent. Mel is completely opposed but Angie is all for it. Mel finally gets in the spirit when Oz's friend Lupe learns that the grand prize is a full ride to college and decides to run. Now Mel and Angie are not only invested cupcake-wise but also want to support Lupe. The head judge seems hell bent on ruining Lupe's chances so when she is found dead under the cupcake table Lupe seems like the prime suspect. Mel, Angie and their motely crew of cupcake bakers work to prove Lupe's innocence and find the real killer.

Yay for another fun cupcake mystery. The beauty pageant background was well done and I loved the development of Lupe and Oz. There was a little too much around the trio of men for Mel. But it turned out fun.

I love the characters in this book and I’m so glad we got to read more about Oz and Lupe.
