Mrs. Isabella Camherst, naturalist, adventures continue. This expedition is full of dangers perils both physical and political. Isabella makes some choices that have interesting political implications that I’m sure will play out next volume. Is it weird that I actually wanted a little more of the dragons? Still a really fun book.

Should have had more dragons.

Lady Trent is an interesting character, and reading about her struggles with the patriarchy is both amusing and frustrating. This exploration novel truly feels like traveling back in time, which is great fun.
Regardless, I'm here for the dragon studies, which I felt took a back seat in this book.

Another great book and the character  Lady Trent is quickly becoming a favorite heroine of mine. I love her frankness and drive. I also appreciate how this fictional world clearly is inspired by nations and history of this world, and demonstrates one can be respectful of diversity and expanse of other cultures in general. I can’t wait to read about the next adventure (and the new character Natalie seems promising too- wish there was more of her in this book and hoping the next books have her)

I just love how much of a human Isabella feels like. Her beliefs, thoughts, and actions just feel so fleshed out. I like that this series is character-centric. Although I would’ve liked more dragon stuff in this one, like the first book.

Lady Trent discovers more about dragons in a space not unlike a mix of Africa and the Amazon. She also learns a lot more about her limits and about not bowing to others to get ahead.
