I have been looking forward to reading this since I first heard of it. A Puerto Rican, female, from New York, AND SHES A LESBIAN? I mean what is there not to like? Also written by Gabby Rivera? Sign me up. I got the 1st issue for free at a vender last year at Megacon. This past week I bought Vol. 1 because even if I hadn't read it, I know I was going to like it. I mean why wouldn't I? It has everything. Action, gay, females, puerto rican lead, and the premise was awesome.
I read the first issue and I enjoyed it, but I thought some of the dialogue was cheesy and way over the top. I built up all this anticipation, excitement, and it was okay. The action scenes were quick and easy. America has some cool powers though. She can open portals and has this super punch. I hope Vol. 1 picks up the pace. The start was slow, I don't know anything about America besides her labels. She's puerto rican, female, from New York (not really), and a lesbian. Her attitude is a bit on the annoying side. Like I said, hopefully the pace picks up, the plot develops, and we find out more about America.
Artwork was amazing as well. Extremely detailed.

Finally! America leapt off the page for me in Young Avengers, great to see her get her own series. Loved the art, even if it wasn't McKelvie this time, and the story promises to be a surreal adventure and I am definitely on board.

She's beauty! She's grace! She'll punch you in the face!

Real talk: I don't love all of the art - there's a particularly awkward Danvers pose, for example. I also think I'm just too enamoured of Jamie McKelvie's take on America and need some time to get used to the new style. HOWEVER, America Chavez has my whole heart and I am so excited to see where this goes.

The last page was probably my favorite out of the whole thing like man I love this girl. It's exciting to see her outside of the pages of Young Avengers.

I'm excited for a comic with a queer Latina protagonist. There's something about the dialogue in Marvel comics that feels clunky to me, but I'm not super familiar with Marvel's comics, so I'm interested to see where this goes.
