This is the first book I have read by Brian Andrews and Jeffrey Wilson. I won his War Shadows (Tier One #2) as a Goodreads giveaway. The story sounded interesting enough that I went and read the first book in the story first. I was please with the general story line and characters. This genre is my favorite type of stories. I am looking forward to reading the next book.

If reading Brad Thor leaves you hungry for more, then Andrew's Tier One can satisfy your hunger. Extremely well written with a well constructed plot line, this is a quality read. I'm looking forward to Tier One, Book Two.

Blood pressure thru the fucking roof from the very first chapter. I don't think people can ever truly grasp just how special and capable the Tier 1 SEALs are. Getting to know these men thru Andrews and Wilson's book is an experience in and of itself. The heartbreak and vengeance that comes with that experience? *chef kiss* I can't wait to read the rest of this series!

A good look into the "spook" world

Engaging, descriptive, and well planned. A good look into the dark side of tier 1 ops and beyond. A few military oversights in weaponry, but otherwise a good read.

I’m a big fan of military/SpecOps books and this didn’t disappoint. I borrowed from Kindle Unlimited and listened to the book via its Audible companion. The narration was impeccable. Each character had a clearly defined “voice” and was expertly portrayed even with numerous accents, genders, & personalities. Reminiscent of the complexities in The Bourne Identity ~ the world-building was thorough without being tedious, the characters were relatable (even if hated), and the plot-twists create the perfect suspense while still believable. I will say that this novel doesn’t belabor long explanations (sometimes no definitions are provided) for military acronyms, ranks, spec-ops directives, etc. I’ve read a considerable amount of military books, both fiction & non, so this wasn’t an issue for me. I don’t think it would detract ~ but a newbie to this genre might be overwhelmed, or at least need Google nearby to help translate.

Definitely looking forward to the next installment.

Some of the terrorist viewpoints were quite terrifying. Some parts of the book seemed overly long. But hey, Ray Porter can read anything and get 5 stars.

A surprisingly good action novel. It manages the almost impossible task of being hardcore intense action with lots of guns and explosions and manly men without being stale or boring or overly shallow. It also manages not to be too up it's own butt about patriotism and isn't violently sexist or racist. That said it's still a post 9/11 military fiction so it does feature your classic middle eastern terrorist group and a lot of the secondary characters (not our leading man, his boss, and the villains of the piece) aren't particularly well developed, though that feels more like a conscious decision and keeps the pace up, I expect that will change in the sequel. Overall a hearty recommendation if you're looking for a thrilling action novel in the vein of rainbowsix or ghost recon.
