“It’s okay if it takes you some time to find it again. And it’s okay if you find it just to lose a bit of it here and there. That’s the beauty of it, yeah? It comes and goes. Not every day is a happy one and it shouldn’t be. It’s in the trying, I think.”
I really enjoyed the first Lovelight book, and I've been wanting to continue the series and read about Beckett and Evie's story ever since. I'm not sure if I set my expectations too high, but my time with In The Weeds wasn't as good as I hoped it would be... There were things I loved, including the small town setting, the quirky cast of characters and the animals, but the actual romance was rather underwhelming for me. I never felt the chemistry between Beckett and Evie, who seemed more in lust than actually in love during most of the plot. The smut was WAY too much for me, and since there are quite a few scenes it was a bit annoying to keep skipping them all. The constant pining and miscommunication could get quite frustrating as well, and especially since it is SO obvious what the two feel about each other. I actually preferred spending time with the side characters rather than with Beckett and Evie, which is never a good sign since the story is mainly focused on the pair. The descriptions of the setting were great though, and it made me wish the small Maryland town was real so that I could actually go there. The animals incorporated into the plot were the cutest, and there was some great banter as well. Sadly, as a romance read, In The Weeds did fail to deliver for me.

Evie and Beckett are so adorable together, and the town of Inglewild just keeps getting more outrageous in the best way. I knew that this series would be a hit for me after I finished Lovelight Farms, and oh boy was I correct!

This time we followed Beckett Porter, farmer at Lovelight Farms and quiet animal lover who doesn't like the attention he gets from the town and Evelynn St. James a social media influencer who is finding herself quite overwhelmed with her life looking to find something more calm and brings her more joy. Their romance and rekindling in this book was so sweet and tender seeing them try to navigate their feelings for one another after a less than ideal ending to an encounter at the bar. It was so wonderful that they were both able to find their happiness in each other rather then in just what they did.
Learning more about Beckett, his family which I adored how they supported him and each other. Why he was so quiet and kept to himself which he explained it was because of having a social disorder that caused him to be bothered by loud noise or too many crowds of people. Evelynn even had her own need to manage everything and overachieving tendencies to work through, it made them feel more like people and not just characters. I also loved how Beckett showed such care for animals that he was willing to take care of them in his own home when they needed it.
While I know for some that the miscommunication by the end does bother some people, I felt it necessary for Beckett and Evelynn to be able to communicate and Beckett to work through his issues with it. I enjoyed my time with this book, the romance was precious, the town itself once again a great setting, and the story about finding your true happiness made this book another five star for the series! I can't wait to move on to Mixed Signals soon!
