Such a cute and fascinating little book. I wanted a bit more from it, the story itself was quite short. The art was lovely though and my fascination with Hans Christian Anderson has definitely been ignited.

This picture book is long but feels very short. In this book Hans Christian Andersen is riding in a stagecoach with a young Elsa. He’s talking with Elsa and entertaining her by telling her the story of his life, including all the magic he’s created on paper. The way this story is done, it’s both biography and a fairytale in its own right. Certain pages have one wanting to pull out old copies of Princess and the Pea, or The Snow Queen. This book is lovely and very well done.

Really enjoyed this historical fiction retelling of Anderson's life. Completed in wonderfully brilliant and hopeful colors, this children's biography-like tale sweeps you up like a flying trunk and doesn't let go til the ending. Well done.

The art was cute, but not really my style. I wasn’t a fan of the q&a storytime between Hans and the little girl on the coach. It seemed stilted and a little weird. The ending made me roll my eyes.

I thought I knew the story of Hans Christian Anderson, but this cute, lovely illustrated picture book proved me wrong. I had never heard that he wanted to be an actor, or that his father was a cobbler.
The story, told from the point of view of the author to a young child, with both scenes of his life, as well as scenes from his many stories. The scenes of his childhood are colored in sepia tone, while his stories are in full color.
The little girl, in the book, asks the sort of questions that a child might have, such as "what happened next".
A good introduction to the author's life, for young children.

This delightful, beautifully illustrated graphic novel shares Hans Christian Andersen's life story. Within the fictional framing device, he is riding in a carriage with a little girl and her mother, and begins telling this girl the fairy tale of his life. I found the narrow font difficult to read at times, and some of the transitions are a bit abrupt, but this is a wonderful introduction to this storyteller. The illustrations are radiant, with different colors and tones representing varied emotions, and in addition to sharing biographical information about Andersen, this book also summarizes of some of his best-known works.
This will appeal to anyone who likes history, fairy tales, rags-to-riches stories, graphic novels, and inspiring, imaginative tales. I really enjoyed this book, and even though I wasn't sure what I would think of the fictionalized elements of this story, the framing device works well and gives Andersen a delightful narrative voice in this book, telling his story to a child.
I remember reading a dry, boring, and drably illustrated biography of Andersen when I was a child, and I am glad that this book exists now to capture his life with soaring colors, creativity, and hopefulness. This is a great book, and readers shouldn't let the fictional elements turn them off from this appealing historical graphic novel.
