After crying in my classroom (and in my car and on the drive home) I desperately needed a book that would bring some metaphorical sunlight my way. The Lager Queen of Minnesota was just the book. Full of strong female characters who work hard and still have the time to support others! This book serves as a reminder of what people can be.  Stradal is able to write an inspiring narrative while not shying away from the hurt of everyday life and the tragedies that many of us face.

There were parts of this book I had a tough time getting through with its slow pace. However, I found all the characters interesting and enjoyed seeing their stories play out. I'll admit some parts felt a little saccharine for my taste, but there's plenty here to ground the story, and I'm glad it did not touch on certain issues (such as the 2016 election) because if a book does talk about things like that, it should be more than a brief mention, like it would have been in this story.

This is a fun, light hearted but compelling read. It was like taking  a thoroughly distracting break from the world. The author has an acute eye and wry sense of humor and excellent observational skills.  I’m not a beer drinker and thought that would put me off. It doesn’t matter! I couldn’t put it down.
