I’m pretty sure this books purpose was for it to be an apology book, and that’s what ruined it for me. She kept adding on bad things Taryns done without Jude’s knowledge and tried to disguise it as an apology. And it would’ve been a somewhat acceptable book if the writer had at least TRIED to make it seem like Taryn was actually sorry. I feel like i would’ve enjoyed this much more if it didn’t feel like Taryn was addressing us(which, if executed properly, probably would’ve been a very nice idea) and apologized several times while also saying she isn’t sorry-yk? I think this wouldve been nice if it was just a simple novella explaining the backstory of Taryn’s betrayal in a different manner

5 stars bc im a sucker for books written from a morally ambiguous pov. I didn’t realise i could dislike taryn more but here we are. She genuinely believes her actions are excusable she is the definition of two faced, that’s what makes taryn so aweful, she’s just as ruthless as jude but she PRETENDS and BELIEVES that she is better, she’s an extremely realistic/ well written villian.

Nice little spin off to bridge the gap between The Cruel Prince and The Wicked King. Jude as a character is much more interesting so didn’t enjoy this as much as I’d hoped.

Nice short novella from Taryn’s pov which made me appreciate her more as a character and hate Locke even more. Not necessary to read but nice if you want more background on the characters.

This story only made me realise how much Taryn and Locke deserve eachother and how they dont deserve Jude.
"I was the good sister, the one who kept faith and stuck to the rules. You were the angry one, the one who didn’t know how far was far enough, the one who courted disaster. It wasn’t fair.
But for a moment it felt good to be awful, like looking down on the world from some great height."

She really said gaslight, gatekeep, girlboss Taryn is my villain origin story. If she has 1 hater it's me.If she has 0 haters, it means I'm dead. The most selfish character I've read about. Ngl I rated it a 1 just because it's her. This was a waste of my time, just solidified my hate for her but at the same time I'm glad I read it because it solidified my hate for her lol. This doesn't influence the plot whatsoever so if you're worried about reading it, take into consideration that this was supposed to be an apology to Jude but somehow she got blamed for all of Taryn's actions.
