I love love love Dante and Kat! I am a sucker for an alpha mafia man and Dante is just that. I loved Kat's character development from a timid woman to a badass "I don't care who you killed" woman. She was great and I especially loved that she would call Dante out on his b.s. The twist at the end of the book was one I didn't see coming and was much appreciated, it definitely felt like a full story with a beginning, middle, and end. I can't wait to read Joey and Maximo's story.

I really want to give this book like, 2 stars, but my biggest complaints are more to do with personal preference so I'm going with 3 stars instead.

This book was very highly recommended in a group I'm a part of and I thought I was going to love it. Unfortunately, I didn't like it very much at all.

Dante and Kat were...okay. I didn't hate them and I didn't hate them as a couple or how they came to be. But the story wasn't really interesting. The word that came to mind while reading was "clunky." A lot of little things didn't make sense which was distracting and didn't make for an immersive reading experience.

The writing wasn't bad, although I noticed a few errors, and things that were worded poorly/incorrectly.

There were a ton of spicy scenes (pretty much constantly) throughout the whole book, but they weren't anything special or exciting, IMO. Some of them were actually a little uncomfortable.
For example, the very first time Dante sexually advances on Kat, it's kind of by force, and this was after knowing she'd been assaulted in the past. Of course, it was written into Kat's internal dialogue that she was attracted to him and okay with what he was doing, but the scene still gave me the ick. He has a thing throughout the book of wanting to help her heal from her past, but in a way that seems forceful in and of itself. It's just weird and I think it could have been handled better. Their sexual interactions laced with emotional undertones should have been hot and passionate, but to me they were weird and uncomfortable. Not all their interactions were like this, just a few, but it was enough to spoil the bunch for me.

I was not aware that there was a pregnancy trope in this book and wish I would have known. It wasn't terrible, but I do my best to avoid books that include it. (This was something I disliked but that didn't affect the rating.)

I had planned on reading the whole series back to back, but I won't be doing that. I don't know if I'll end up reading the other books at all. Maybe one day, if I ever run out of things to read.
