Ruthless for sure
If Mafia, kidnapping, enemies to lovers is your vibe this is the book for you. Dante is the head of the Chicago mafia and he's known for being cruel, ruthless, and heartless. I mean rumor has it he killed his fiance and her whole family the night before the wedding. But you can't believe everything you hear. Kat is a girl trying to live after trauma and cleaning up the mess her brother leaves behind. So of course that leads Dante and Kat together and thus the romance will begin.
Overall a great story with twist and turns and emotion that kept me coming back for more. Definitely looking forward to glimpses of their story in the next one

There were moments of the book I really liked, but I just wasn't getting the logic behind some of Kat's decisions. Also, the book was pretty dark on the dark romance spectrum. I almost DNF-ed at one point.
The men in this family are some of the most misogynistic characters written. The women have to fight tooth and nail to be considered humans. The book is pretty graphic for content warnings, and I think was way too dark for my liking.
I can’t stop thinking about how awful Dante’s treatment of Kat would be in real life. To treat a trauma survivor by pushing them past their clear boundaries, and then she thanks him for it after! What in the hell is this?? At every possible point he makes the worst decisions in pushing her.
The first three books in the series have the same type of relationship vibe to them. Each book emphasizes different tropes, but the fmc/mmc dynamic is basically carbon copies of each other. Feisty girl. Mafia grumpy dude. Guy needs to be dominate. It’s a formula in the series.
There was no build up to the relationship in this. It doesn’t feel like enemies to lovers at all, but just two people who are into each other in close proximity. There was about a five page span where they went from “enemies” to lovers. FMC making dumb decisions immediately as soon as possible. Yeah, this book was not for me at all. Still finished reading since I read books 2-3 already and held out some hope this would get better. Yes, I did read out of order.
