Ward has a mind for creepy, twisty writing and I mean that in the best way possible. This story is mostly full of heartache and the terrifying things that can happen when children are exposed to too much trauma. It brings up a lot of anxiety about raising children and how easy it can be to mess them up.

Interesting build up, great plot, very easy to read, becomes a little chaotic at the end

everything about this made me feel anxious and icky but nothing actually “horror” had even happened yet. Just the horror of a miserable narrator with a miserable relationship with her husband and kids and friends

This book is spectacular. I will agree it takes a bit of time to get into the story- and after I finally got into it, I was almost nervous to keep reading and see where it ends up going. It did not disappoint! I can see where other readers were confused by the multiple plots and story within a story and while at times I couldn’t predict where it was going next, I think The various story lines and plot points came together full circle. The prose was beautiful. The story made me uneasy in an addicting sort of way. Part way through I was worried it was going to be gross just for the sake of being gross and, oh my, it played out differently than expected. Kept me guessing until the last page. Highly recommend.
