‘Het winkeltje in Cockleberry Bay’ van Nicola May mag dan het begin zijn van een trilogie, maar dit deel gaat al vliegend van start. Het verhaal heeft namelijk alles wat een fijne feelgoodroman moet hebben. Van een prettige schrijfstijl, personages om van te houden, een omgeving waar je je thuis voelt, liefde, vriendschap en een goed mysterie om de aandacht van de lezer vast te houden. Als dit boek je geen heerlijk zomers gevoel geeft, dan weet ik het niet meer. En de aandacht vasthouden met een mysterie is Nicola May ook zeker gelukt! Stiekem doorzag ik al een beetje wat ze van plan was, maar dat vond ik helemaal niet erg. Ik kijk nu alleen maar uit naar een terugkeer naar deze bijzondere plek met zijn personages die uit het leven gegrepen zijn. Stuk voor stuk zijn ze zo levendig, zo dorps en zo realistisch!

Wat een slechte serie, haha. Ik denk dat je deze serie vooral als luisterboek moet luisteren want als boek is dit echt zonde van je tijd. Irritant hoofdpersonage, rare bewoordingen en keuzes. Maar wel vermakelijk.

Absolutely amazing book! Downloaded it today, finished it today! Fantastic from start to finish, brilliant characters, so honest as well as romantic! I now want to move to Devon and have my very own shop haha! Downloaded the next one already!

Skvělá oddechovka, která se nejenom příjemně čte, ale i pobaví.
Hlavní hrdinka je konečně postavou s vlastní osobností i mozkem a jako bonus má i velice prostořeký jazyk, díky kterému se občas dostává do i ze svízelných situací. Pokud jde o mě, jsou jisté věci, které mi v knize a charakteru přišly zbytečné a při čtení mě svým opakováním poněkud unavovaly. To je také důvod, proč z celkového hodnocení strhávám jednu hvězdičku. I tak jsou ale 4 hvězdy docela pěkným výsledkem a příjemným překvapením a pokud si chcete oddychnout u nenáročné četby, knihu doporučuji.

The Corner Shop in Cockleberry Bay is the first book in the Cockleberry Bay series of books by Nicola May and what a wonderful start it is. I really wish I'd come across it sooner and I will most definitely be going looking for the other two books.
Rosa is a young woman who was brought up in the care of social services, both in foster home or care homes in various parts of London. She is lodging with her friend-with-benefits Josh when she gets an unexpected gift: The Corner Shop, left to her by an unknown benefactor.
Keen to discover more, she travels down to Devon. She finds the shop in fairly good nick, and is eager to get cleaning since it's been empty for five years.
Can she discover who has left her this wonderful property and opportunity to better herself?
I love that the characters are so relatable and as diverse as our
wonderful land is. Can't wait to read the next installment.
