I think this book was actually pretty good, and I had a lot of fun learning about the world. I just wish that the female main character would've taken more of a leading role in her own story. I don't know maybe that's just me. I did really enjoy myself while reading though and I did like Farryn and Jericho.

NOT a fan of the pregnancy trope and hated how the plot became hinged upon it.

Ahhh smh — par for the course with Keri Lake — I’m honestly in love with the first half of all her stories and then they completely go downhill for me. I did love the angels & demons vibe of this one. That ending was not it for me. I may or may not read the conclusion story (book two).

Wins:
  • The purgatory-type setting
  • Dudes with wings
  • Lustina’s backstory (historical perspective was so much better)
  • OTP trope
  • Creepy demons (the thrills)
  • Constantine (the movie) vibes
  • Jane Eyre (the book) vibes; Rochester in a gothic castle atmosphere
  • Dual timeline — multi perspective

Losses:
  • Farryn’s whiny-ass perspective
  • Alphahole behaviour
  • Aggressive sex scenes
  • About 100 pages TOO FUCKING LONG
  • the pregnancy omg NO

This had me at the very first mention of Angels and Demons and forbidden love that stretches thousand eternities because I love them, I still freaking love them.

It started slow but I get that it is necessary for the build up, the story occurs in two timelines and though it is it wasn't confusing to read. The nightshade wasn't hard to imagine and kinda reminds me of Hades's underworld.

The characters, I love Lustina more than Farryn is that weird? I just think Lustina is more stronger and braver and won't  go down without putting up a fight. Jericho Van Croix, who wouldn't love a man who will do literally everything just to be with you again? I get that sometimes he is annoying and a jerk and probably problematic but I think that's what makes his character a little realistic, need I say more? There are also a few more likeable characters like Remy who I found adorable and funny and Anya, the mother figure.

The plot, I didn't know it would be this hard to describe the plot without giving away any details that could spoil you, but if you loved Fallen by Lauren Kate or liked it once when it was popular? I am sure you'd like or even love this one as well. But this isn't YA of course, it has detailed gory scenes and not for the faint of heart and 'chili pepper' scenes of course that are not suitable for the younger readers. But I think you're aware of it already since this is a dark romance book.

I've read few more books from Keri Lake and this by far is my favorite. I can't wait for the book two!
It's coming soon and I'm obviously excited.
I also thank @Kerilake for giving me this opportunity to venture in Nightshade, I would definitely go back every chance I'll have.
