Elizabeth Lim builds a beautiful, tragic, and exciting world. Captivating storytelling. An amazing fairy tale/myth for young adults and adults. Couldn’t put it down.

I'm sorry. I'm DNFing it. It's sooo boring. I have moments where I just zone out so much, I have no idea what's going on. I don't like having to keep going back and trying to re-listen to it (it's an audiobook since I didn't mention it) to understand what's going on. I don't know if it's the narrator, but I was having the same issue with The Dragon's Promise, book 2 of Six Crimson Cranes, and I don't feel like trying to force myself to finish the book like I was doing with the second book. I wanted to give her a chance, but I just can't with this one. I think this is the end of the line of Elizabeth Lim for me. I wanted to read the other duology she has, but after this... no. I just don't care for her writing.

Loved it until the ending😭😭 a lot of cool potential plot points introduced at the beginning that could've been used so well that just... weren't ?? also the romance confused me ... is this mf a dragon or a dude... and if he's a dragon then lowkeyyyyy im kinna 😦

Super cute story! I really enjoyed this world and Shiori and Channi’s story, it was very unique and vibrant. Sisters are always gonna hold a special place in my heart, so I loved Vanna and Channi’s bond and that relationship. I liked her writing also, it painted a clear picture of the world and was easy to read, so I’d like to read her other duology too.

IT'S A RARE CASE WHERE THE PREQUEL IS BETTER

I just want to say, this "romance" of sisters really broke me. Channi, the stepmom's prequel is just so heartbreaking. I picked this up without realising this was a prequel. Only halfway then it hit me like a brick and I just dread the ending, knowing what happens to the serpent queen in the Six Crimson Cranes. But God was it beautiful. I love this so much. Might be the best 2024 reads so far.
