Elle Kennedy does it again!  I love the Briar hockey boys soooo much!!!! This book was very cute but also dealt with some heavy subjects.  I love the friendship Demi and Hunter had in the beginning and how their relationship developed over time.  I love how supportive they were of each other and how they helped each other to overcome challenging situations.

This book also had a few perfect silly moments!!! Without spoiling anything, two of my favorites are: “yupp yupp” and the scenes that included Pablo.

This book is the perfect mix of silly, sweet, and serious. Of note, I usually don’t have to add trigger warnings, but there is a scene dealing with suicide, so proceed with caution.

Okay, wtf? Quite frankly, the only reason I finished this one is bc 1) I used an audible credit for this 2) mostly wondering what Hollis and Rupi (sp?) were going to do and 3) praying that it turns around and comes close to what Elle Kennedy delivered in the Off Campus series and Campus Diaries series.

I HATED how Demi and that guy pretended to be hooking up to make Hunter jealous, prompting him to break his vow of celibacy. And for what? So she could get her rebound??? … the fuck??? You couldn’t wait a few months until the end of the season?

It also doesn’t seem in character for everyone to judge his decision to be celibate. The least judgmental person was Garrett and that was a brief mention.

Also, the thing where Demi went behind his back to “surprise” him with the intro to the agent. She takes first prize for least likable main character in the Briar world. Quickly followed by Fitz (don’t get me started).

This whole series is supremely subpar compared to the Off-Campus series and Campus Diaries series. So far Brenna and Jake are carrying the whole thing. I’ll listen to the fourth book, but only bc I already used my last audible credit on it before realizing what a shit show this series is.

This was a personal 5-star read for me, meaning: were there problems? Sure. Was it a perfect work of art? Definitely not. Did I giggle and kick my feet and stay up late and wake up early to read this? 100%. I just thoroughly and completely enjoyed myself reading this book. I loved Hunter and Demi, I loved their friends-to-lovers arc, I loved their actual relationship and how they were so damn horny for each other. I just loved everything. I also appreciate Elle Kennedy’s obvious efforts to diversify her books. (The “It’s complicated” in diversity is because Demi and other new characters are diverse, but of course the other characters are white because they’re all from the earlier books. So good progress is being made, but we’re not all the way there yet.)
Honestly, I feel like I kind of said everything in that first paragraph😂 The sexual tension and then sexual payoff in this book was sublime. And I loved getting to know Hunter better; he actually might be one of my favorite leading men now. Dean is my other favorite. And Jake. Maybe I just have a thing for players… Anyway, Demi is also super amazing. I thought her interest in psychology was so fun and I loved how she could be both fiery and reserved. Women contain multitudes!
Anyway, if you’re going to read any of the Briar U series, read this one. (Or The Risk🤪)

This was a good story! I think I’m still coming down from the High of Brenna and Jake in The Risk though because I didn’t love Demi and Hunter as much. I love how Elle Kennedy doesn’t just write a sexy romance, but also has really good character development.
