High 3 stars, I really like S.T. Gibson’s writing and retellings, so I enjoyed this. It was short, and had a bunch of editing mistakes and typos, but I had a good time! Also she made it lesbian so it could only go well

Oh my GOSH I loved this. It's a re-telling of Hans Christian Andersen’s The Snow Queen, but with LESBIANS! And ROBBER KINGS AND PRINCESSES! SNOW QUEENS and NATURE MAGIC and FOUND FAMILIES!!!!
Honestly this was just so good. Quick and fun and well written and SUPER GAY and I adored it.

A captivating short novel that made me feel as though I am reading the story of 2 young women experiencing a folk tale. The length of this novel was perfect for me, giving me characters I'd love to know more of but also leaving me feeling satisfied with the conclusion. It is a lovely little sapphic story full of pining, emotion, and grief.

I thought the plot took a while to get going, it seemed like there was a lot of time spent building up the backstory of the two characters before they actually embarked on their adventure. It felt like the actual actions of the plot that they had been talking about for so long only started happening about 2/3 of the way through the book. The narrator is very good though, I very much enjoyed her narration.

St. Gibson is my queen. I loved Dowry of Blood, Education in Malice, and this short story is right up there with them. I recommend it for any sapphic dark fairy tale lovers.
Plot Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Genre: Fiction, fantasy, fairytale, retellings
Trigger Warnings: Mention of violence, sexism, gore, child death
