These stories were not amazing, but they were extremely fun. The artwork is fast and loose, and the humor is extremely tongue in cheek. These reminded me of earlier comics, and adhere to a lot of the Golden and Silver age conventions.

Also, can I just say I quite enjoy the idea of a super hero team made up of all the characters the other teams wouldn't accept?

The larger story arc in this collection, TiGirl Adventure (parts 1 and 2) by Jamie Hernandez was absolutely fantastic. It rifts and comments on science fiction, sup hero comics, fandom, feminism, and more. I'm excited to see that Volume 2 of Love Rockets contains TiGirl Adventures parts 3 and 4.

I was less thrilled with the shorter pieces by Gilbert Herandez, but there were a couple interesting ones. Chiro el Indio comments on the relationship between Mexicans and indigenous people..and the Church. It also manages to be quite humorous in places. Victory Dance is a short piece about a gay (male) couple discovering they don't have HIV/AIDS. In general I've read good things about how the comic deals with GLBTQ issues, so I'm looking forward to see how future/past issue explores those issues.

While it is intimidating to start in on a comic series now entering its 4th decade, I will definitely be reading more Love and Rockets. I think that I will treat it like Doctor Who...read the new stuff first and then go back to the older stuff.

I wanted to like this so much more than I did. Are other volumes still worthwhile for me?

Quality weirdness from Los Bros Hernandez - haven't read any L&R for years, since before I started on Goodreads, and now can't remember why that is. Good characters, mind-bending stories with roots in pop & Latin culture, suspiciously clean draftsmanship. Will look for future "New Stories" collections.

I actually liked it. I'd read more. Didn't really care for the other short stories in it, but enjoyed the super chicks doing their thing. It was cool to see an older super woman for a change!

An extremely eclectic collection of comics from three of the Hernández brothers, including a very bizarre superhero comic and several like what the! comics.

This comic collection was alright, but in my mind, it wasn't anything too special beyond being diverse. I'll admit that I probably would have enjoyed it much more if I was more familiar with the older comics and characters and if I started reading it at a time when it was brand new and uniquely diverse. For right now, it didn't stand out as anything crazy or too interesting.
That being said, I can appreciate that the artwork is phenomenal, the stories were fun, and the characters were very diverse. It just didn't stand out to me and it was more of a chore to read than something I was excited about.
Maybe I'll give the rest of these comics a try to better appreciate this one.
