Deceit, book two in the Beastly Tales, is my favorite book in this series.

Benella is now working for the Beast in exchange for her father's life. Determined to understand him and help him break his curse, Benella is open to many things, but her limits are definitely tested in this book.

I loved getting a deeper look at the beast, who he really is and further understanding him. His temper is definitely intense and he does have a one-track mind at times, but he can also be kind and fun at times. As Benella and the beast get to know one another more, they grow closer emotionally and physically. Meanwhile, Benella grows further from her sisters, whose increasing greed and desire for better circumstances causes them to push her away (unless she has money or goods to trade of course).

The end of this story takes a darker turn for Benella. Feeling abandoned and recovering from a traumatic experience, Benella must find a way to heal and come to terms with who the Beast has become.

I am reviewing this from my own kindle copy.

After book one I could not wait to dive into this one. Benella is now a captive of the beast albeit not a very willing one. She denies him at every opportunity and dares him with her every breath. I'm not a big fan of renditions of fairy tales but this one is darkly erotic and captures such vivid imagery that it's insane not to follow it. Benella is such a perfect character, and so heroic. Even in her man pants, and scandalous ways, she manages to capture our hearts and imaginations. Five stars of entertainment.

Garbage. Hot garbage. Junk food for my brain, and yet, I enjoyed myself. Why am I like this?!

This reeks of the Stockholm Syndrome and virgin damsel in distress tropes but I (unfortunately) am here for it.

Internal yelling at characters!!

^Only at the end, thank goodness I bought the third book already. Life in this estate is good for Benella and since she's bold enough to demand terms for the beast, her family doesn't have to worry either. Correction, her father doesn't have to worry since her sisters only care about themselves! Had a good laugh when she asked about women having pent up urges. Reading next book now.

Slightly better than the first one. I did like their interactions though.

Ugh, I just can’t with this book. Four chapters in and rape is already being used as a plot device/ excuse for the Beast’s shitty behaviour.

Can we have an erotic retelling without the constant threat of sexual assault? I find it unnecessary and lazy on the authors part. Is there no other possible conflict that could have been introduced?

Also, the Beast’s logic behind why he wants to perve on a naked Benella all day doesn’t even make sense.

I won’t be continuing this book or the series. I’ve got too much on my tbr to bother with something I’m not enjoying.

⚠️non consent/sexual assault

Bini loves the Beast

Ok, so because we all already know the tale of Beauty and the Beast, it was quite obvious that she would fall in love with him. But the journey there is what made this story unique. I couldn't put my tablet down. Finishing this is less than 24hrs. Can't wait to start book 3.
