This was so frightening to read but I wanted to read it. The movie is one of my faves but it doesn't scare me like it used to when I was younger. I'm not going to lie though...this book made me sleep with the light on. =)

Okay I want to start out with saying I loved this book. I have been reading a lot of horror/thrillers and this may be the only one that freaked me out. I came into reading this only know that the little girl gets possessed (spoiler?). I was very surprised with the slow burn of the possession, the frankness used when describing what Reagan went through, and the terror that the mom had. I loved how scientific and medical it was and how exorcisms were seen as something nobody did. I went into thinking that this book would be full of religious ideas, and everyone would be on board. But that wasn’t the case. I loved it and I would suggest not reading it at night!

Great book. The suspense had me hooked from the second chapter. Pacing was great going from “everything’s perfect” to “hmm that’s a bit off” to “this is getting bad” to “this is getting worse” until you can’t believe what you’re even reading. I loved the ending and Karras’ character in general. He had so much depth and brought so much to the story and to the dialogue between characters. First horror book I’ve ever read (kinda) and I feel like it was a great place to start.

Oh God!

I could not be torn away from Blatty's fortieth anniversary reading of his classic novel. Whether you've seen the movie, already read the book, or none of the above, you need to get this audiobook. By turns chilling to downright terrifying, the story Blatty creates truly comes alive with his voice.

The book was okay. Not as disturbing as it had been advertised to me, but certainly not a book to read on a chill Sunday afternoon.

The prose was alright. It took me a while to get used to the "stream of consciousness" moments, but they flowed well after a while.

Besides that, not much to note. I was annoyed at how sexual the demon was, but I guess that demons don't have any qualms on that area. Some characters were kinda dumb at certain moments, but I guess I wouldn't believe in demonic possessions at first either, and keeping rationale when all is going down is not an easy thing.

Didn't have trouble sleeping and didn't think much about demons or the book after it was over. Still, a nice read.
