Grant Morrison really made a wonderful story here. Superman, who is dying due to overexposure to the Sun, as he accomplishes many heroic feats (Labors of Superman) and attempts to make peace with the world before his death. This story is so well paced and the writing is wonderfully done. I must say the artwork in this story is beautiful too and one of my favourite if not my favourite design of Superman.

As a first-time reader of Superman comics and someone who's only mildly familiar with the Superman canon, this was unfortunately underwhelming. The plot was erratic and disjointed. Character development and backstory were missing, with the exception of the short exploration into Superman's relationship with his adoptive father. The few female characters were frustratingly incompetent, fell flat, and mainly were used as plot devices and sex symbols. This comic book fails the Bechdel Test miserably. It also completely lacks sufficient diversity -- especially considering it was a re-make written in the 2000s. On its own, this comic book makes the stories of Superman seem pretty surface-level and simple. The illustrations are very good, with vivid coloring. It seems like this book may be more exciting and nostalgic for long-time Superman fans.

After reading this comic run, I am now extremely disappointed with every single superman we've seen on the silver screen. I grew up thinking he was just a boring strong guy who punched the bad guys harder than they punched him, but the essence of this guy is way more than that.
The story is about trying to do the right thing, and trying to find the good in every person you meet. At the same time, there are moments of great storytelling, great character writing and incredible visuals illustrated by the legend Frank Quitely. A great story that can be read in a couple of hours.
