Ok, so this story starts out when Joey and Aoife are 12 and we go on a rollercoaster of hormone filled teenage angst, drama and bullshit until age 18. Then it just turns into angst.
It was hard to stomach. If you have read Binding/Keeping13 you know how much Joey stands between his parent’s abuse and his siblings. He takes it all and then he copes with drugs. So we get front and center POV for alllll of that. Heavy and were just getting started. I had a hard time with the pacing at first because we spent so much time with them at ages 13-14. And while I appreciated the nostalgia of the time period, generationally, I had a hard time relating to the drama and then remembering they were so young. haha.
This is not a swoony romance. This is gritty but great writing. I think by the time you get to the 3rd part of this book you understand these two pretty well. Joey desperately needs someone in his corner he can trust because he’s drowning. Aoife is prepared to put Joey before everything else to prove she is that person. So in this book we get to know our couple and see the huge obstacles in between them. On to part 2…I hear it’s even more heavy. eek.

I really enjoyed reading about Joey and Aoife's love story even though they're not my favorites, Joey is a bad boy with a heart of gold and Aoife is a badass whom I loved learning more about. Chloe Walsh continues to be able to break my heart and hook me to her books. Can't wait for the next one now that we are near the timeline of the first two books and I hope the rest of the cast will appear more and we will get to experience still more heartbreaking moments

JOEYAOIFE, MY BABIES, MY KING N QUEEN, MY EVERYTHING. I LOVE THEM SO MUCH. FUCK THIS BOOK BROKE ME SO BAD. I JUST WANT TO JUMP OF A HILL RN. 😭😭
I TOOK ALMOST A MONTH TO FINISH IT COZ I COULDN'T HANDLE READING THEM IN PAIN 😭😭
This was everything. It was a perfect mix of happiness, sadness, pain, suffering and toxicity. I already knew how Joey was in B13 n K13 but really seeing it from his pov, it just broke me beyond. And Aoife, pls she is holding on but still so vulnerable. Seeing them in pain broke my heart so much. The Lynch fam deserves so much love and happiness. I just want to hug them and protect them from every pos out there. Ngl this book made me hate Darren n Marie as much as Teddy. And to think this is just the tip of the iceberg. The things that is coming in the next book, I won't survive it. 😭😭
