Susan Casey explores her experiences living on the Farallones- a set of islands where researches spend months and years at a time researching on of the most awe inspiring animals on the planet- the great white shark.
I thought that this book was wonderfully written- you can tell that Casey has a wonderful grasp on prose, and her descriptive writing is amazing.
This book was overall very informative on everything that you could want to know regarding white sharks. Their biology, their history of attacks, their decline in population due to human interaction- it is fantastically written and well done.
I thought that there was also a great sense of awe and journey in this book that could stand comfortably amongst the best adventure books of the last 20 years.
Definitely an interesting book and one that I am glad to have read. Honestly, when I started this book I had a preconceived notion of "the devil's teeth" being a pejorative term against white sharks. Thankfully, it turned out that this was actually a reference to the look of the Farallones islands. I appreciate this book shedding light on the immoral razing of the white shark population, and it being a book that spreads awareness of white shark conservation to the masses. This is part of what these non-fiction works are supposed to do- educate the masses and garner interest on further exploration and learning on the subjects present, and, I think that Casey did a great job here.

What a thrilling read. I’m stuck inside from quarantine during the time of year where I’d usually be scuba diving, so the vivid descriptions of the San Francisco Bay and all the things lurking below provided excellent daydreaming material.
