Picked up "The Levee" right after finishing the first book of the saga and I definitely felt more entertained than for "The Flood".
As always, the story follows exactly what the title mentions : the construction of the levee.
I did like it more than the first since the plot became more interesting and the horror was easily more felt.
Mary-Love is still a despicable character and Elinor still goes headstrong against her.
I must admit, I didn't like Queenie and her children at first. However, with what happens to her and after getting more informations on her life made me really appreciate her as a mother and person.
"The Levee" reads as easily as the first book and the storyline progresses at a good pace while still managing to keep everything together and not be hollow in some parts.
I'm definitely looking forward to reading the rest of this!
