I loved the face that the both main characters get the help they needed in the end. It's not the typical, 'you saved me but why I can't save you' trope. They both saved each other from themselves and their situation. Although, the main character is a bit hard headed. Making it somewhat difficult for those surrounding her, especially those who are trying their best to help her. But I believe that's the part of the process. I've been there.

Classic Sarah Dessen, can’t really complain. There were some dated terms, but the story wasn’t too bad for being 14 years old.
Ruby works to find a definition of family as both an assignment from school and as a way to accept her own new life.
I listened to the audiobook so it was more or less a simple read for me. So,e dark elements but overall hopeful.
