Kathleen Glasgow's Girl in Pieces is not an easy read in terms of content. However, if you're able to make it through-- it serves as a very raw and real portrait of a young girl struggling with mental health. Glasgow doesn't shy away from the true nature of the struggles depicted in Charlie, never romanticizing the way you so often see. As you read, you see the way Charlie's struggles affect her ability to form lasting relationships with anyone in her life, highlighting real-time side effects of mental health struggles. I can't say this will be true for everyone (as everyone's experiences are different), but Girl in Pieces will make you feel understood in one way or another. Glasgow just gets it.

It is dark but ends well and is something you might yell at the characters at at times but is really good

I'm glad that Charlie is quite better now and that she has started her new journey in her life and I hope once she got to Paris she will be able to meet her friend Ellis.

I wasn't a big fan of the age difference between Charlie and Johnnie. It was only mentioned once that it might not be appropriate, but I couldn't help but feel a bit uncomfortable about it. On the other hand, I understand what it's like to be in a broken state and I've known other individuals who have been through similar experiences like Charlie. Unfortunately, things like that can happen, especially when you're in a vulnerable situation. And at 17, you tend to romanticize certain things, just as Charlie did.

I wasn't quite satisfied with Johnnie's redemption at the end, it felt rushed and not deserved to me.

However, I loved everything else about the book. I used to struggle with self-harm, but it's been about 10 years since I last did it. This book really captured the emotions and thought processes that go through your mind when you're in that dark place, it was so relatable. It also made me realize how far I've come since then. I was able to read through the book without feeling triggered, which showed me that I'm finally in a good place surrounded by people who truly love and understand me. They want me by their side simply because of who I am, not because I'm useful to them. There's no manipulation, no toxic words or actions, just pure love.

I can't believe this book as been sitting on my shelf for so long, I thoroughly enjoyed every moment of it. I can't recommend this book enough to every single person I meet, because honestly it would takes a thousand years to give you all my thought on this book.

But it's just so well written and heart retching that I think half my thoughts on this book would just be tears and sobs.

I would also like to say while this book does not go into very graphic detail of certain things mentioned in the content warnings I still warn you it's better to be safe then sorry. And just not risk reading or even listening to this book if you think you could be heavily triggered by anything in this book.

This book was really really good and I really wanted to finish it, but it was the content that made me was to not finish it. This book mentions and describes in detail topics that readers that have a history with mental health issues, sh, and other similar topics might struggle with reading. The part of the book that I read was written amazingly and was very hooking, but I struggled to read certain descriptions and that made me decide it was better for me if I didn't read it. I'm sure it's a great book, but I would recommend reading a few reviews and trigger warnings before starting to read it.
