What made me pick this one up is the premise of 3 female generations taking on the family business. But it was all down hill from there.
1. i didn't particularly like the book cause of the story seemed meh to me. I didn't find mystery enough! Like Jenny screwing with us her ex-husband. I can understand people can actually do that but it went on till almost the end of the book which made me suspicious of her ex-husband being of part of something sinister. I earlier thought this plot line is for some character arc, to show that people do stupid things in grief. And it was that, but also to help the plot... so she's involved with him and gets to know he killed Mel and now she gets beaten up because he is a monster, etc etc.. It was pretty basic.
2. ALso, there were too many names to remember. (nervous laughter) It took me almost 60% in the book to remember that Jacob is this old guy and Longhorn is that adulterer and Liam is the painter.
3. And I felt there were 4 solid stories put in one book and they quickly unraveled themselves and I didn't feel any tension which is what a thriller should do.
4. i felt the family dynamics weren't explored enough. The middle gen had gone through a cheating husband and a divorce and her mother did the same thing with her husband. I mean none of the family stuff were spoken openly. and nothing was resolved. And that just felt like.... why was that added in the book? How did it serve the book, the plot exactly?
I liked the writing, it kept me going and i could finish the book quickly. the extra 0.5 star is for the writing.
