Literary agent Isabel Reed receives a mysterious manuscript, containing shocking - shocking! - information about media mogul Charlie Wolfe. The book turns out to be dangerous property. Wolfe's people are determined to destroy every copy, and the minute Isabel pitches it to her favorite, ruggedly handsome editor, bodies start piling up. For a literary agent, Isabel is very adept at covert ops. She expertly gets rid of her bad guy tail along with hidden microphones and tracking devices, tucks her lovelorn editor under one arm and the manuscript under the other, and gets the hell outta town. I can only assume she has learned these skills by reading numerous thrillers for work.

It's good, fast-paced fun, but predictable in the sense that you already know that any poor sucker who comes in contact with the manuscript will be ruthlessly eliminated. Also, I figured out who the author was - I mean, who he really was - early on, so the ending was a 'meh'. I liked that the novel was set in the publishing world, although I hope the literary people aren't quite as nasty in the real world. The action takes place in both the U.S. and Europe, which is all good and well, but if you're going to go European, maybe don't refer to a Danish character as Dutch. Or get a better editor.

If you enjoyed The Expats, you'll probably like this one.

This is his second novel and it's almost as good as his first. I thoroughly enjoyed it -- lots of unexepected twists and turns. I very quick read.

Book was well-written, but all the characters were unlikable (so many innocents killed for this manuscript!), that it ultimately was not that satisfying for me. And the "twists" were telegraphed pretty clearly--was I supposed to be surprised about who was married to whom? And the character who supposedly "faked" deaths--weren't there a lot of actual deaths as well? Kind of confusing...

Good God a'mighty. This book. It's literary crack and I need more. As long as Chris Pavone keeps dealing I'll keep buying.

A romp across Europe and New York with dead bodies galore. Definitely did not see the end coming.

Good fun, but maybe a little bit needlessly confusing.
