The pacing of this book is actually incredible; it flows like a river in that sometimes it's fast, sometimes it's slow, but it's always moving. Silko actually manages to pull off a huge cast of characters and gives each of them a distinct voice without any choppy transitions. I'm still thinking about it constantly. People love to call any long book an epic but this one really truly is.

An intricate epic that portrays people as not only perverse in their exploitation of the earth, but their exploitation of each other. Graphic and hard to stomach at times, but with an important message for the inheritors of the planet.

There's a good reason this book is 760 pages but unfortunately I didn't understand that reason until about 80 pages from the end. And now it just seems like altogether too much work to go back and reread it as it was intended.
