I received this book on Kindle in a Goodreads giveaway.
This was a very odd story, these seems to be a re-telling of a Russian folk tale (I may be wrong but that was the impression I got) and I know a lot of those old stories were pretty out there, so I think this was in keeping with that. It was actually kind of a fun time, just very weird and a little all over the place.

I won this from a giveaway as a Kindle book. I am a fan of fairytale retellings, and this looked right up my alley. I was pretty excited to read it, unfortunately I was also pretty disappointed within minutes of starting. I don’t consider myself very picky when it comes to books and enjoy various writing styles and genres. However, the writing style used in this book is just not good. I had a lot of issues with how this book is written. It seemed like the author was trying to write in a mystical/magical way, and it really didn’t work for me. The characters felt flat, and I wanted more from the writing. More showing instead of telling, more rich descriptions to help feel immersed in the story, etc. The storyline itself (as a retelling) was good. The execution was unfortunately poor which made following the storyline difficult. Additionally the relationships between the characters felt rushed. I saw so many missed opportunities while reading that I wish had been taken. The one saving grace was how short the story was (although this may be part of the issue with this book). I have had another book by the author on my want to read list, but now I’m hesitant as the execution of this really left a sour taste in my mouth.
