A truly lovely read about finding home and family in the face of trauma-response demanding otherwise. It landed as a warmer, fuzzier, even more tender House in the Cerulean Sea.

It is a really cozy and warm story. Perfect for a calm afternoon. And the kids are a mood.

I'm very glad I stuck it out and finished this one, because it was truly lovely! The start was a bit slow and felt sort of generic, but as soon as the children entered the story I was hooked.

Kids being my favorite part of the story is uncommon, but Mandanna manages to write three very unique, funny, strong-willed girls who throw around curse words and threats of murder in the most endearingly innocent ways.

The romance storyline is what kept it from being five stars for me. There were a few deeper "get to know each other" moments between Mika and Jamie, but overall it felt like the reader is supposed to take for granted that these two beautiful young people will fall in love.

Regardless, this is a warm and cozy read about found-family and carving out a space for yourself in the world. Absolutely recommend if you're looking for something to put a smile on your face!

A wonderfully cozy fantasy novel that explores human connections and the joy and pain that they encompass

GENRE: Magical Realism, Romance, Contemporary Fiction
[TW: loss of a parent, parental estrangement, emotional abuse]

"A lot of nice people stop being nice when they don't get exactly what they want...When I'm around people like that, I feel like curling up into a little ball, like a hedgehog. I've been taught all my life not to draw attention to myself, not to make people angry, not to let anyone notice how peculiar I am. Sometimes, even now, I have to remind myself that I am stronger than they think. That I have power."

What did you think of the book overall? I adored this book and especially loved the found family aspect. The three young witches were absolutely adorable, hilarious and full of spunk.
And the side romance...ugh, just the best.

What was the most surprising? What was the most fun?
I was surprised by how many similarities I could find between this book and The House in the Cerulean Sea. Although, that's never a bad thing! |loved the scenes when the three girls were learning about their own magic and the little twist towards the end had me cracking up!

Any takeaways from the book?
This is a must read for anyone in search of their own belonging. For anyone in search of the reminder that they are worthy exactly how they are. And for anyone who knows the power of found family to give vou those things.
