I've only read one John Green book before this (Looking for Alaska) and I loved it. So, I was hoping I wouldn't be blinded by my extreme bias going into this book.

The first few chapters went by and it was like...how will I relate to this? Plus I was a little put off by the apparent "love at first sight" thing that was going on between Augustus and Hazel.

Of course, as I got further into the book, I realised it really wasn't like that at all. So I started off by simply enjoying the book, but suddenly I loved it.

John Green really is a fantastic author who continues to inspire and delight me with his books. I can't wait to read another.

I haven't read this book in a decade and it hurts just as much now as it did then. It's a beautiful, heart-wrenching, gut-punch of a story.
SpoilerIt isn't a happy ending, it just is.

Very realistic and philosophical at the same time. Perfect characterization and strong dialogue. Green is a talented writer.

I gave this book 4 stars because it was well written but I think for a younger audience or someone who’s just started reading romance. It was sad but not sad enough. In my opinion I really like books that are cry worthy. If I cry I know it’s a good book!

The book was amazing and if John Green's other books are half as good as this one I will certainly read them.

There's a couple reasons this book was particularly dreadful to me.

1. Hazel is just downright intolerable. I do empathize with the character development occurring about her terminal cancer and general difficulties with life. That I could have lived through if in the next chapters the development of this was not just thrown out the nearby window.

2. The fact character development IS thrown out the nearby window. You spent the early book developing Hazel as a bitter individual who trusted no one. What does she proceed to do? Welp, I'm just going to hop in a car with a perfect stranger while two people make out outside. Which my god anymore young adult literature is more sex filled than the adult romance.
